The Alienware 13 Is the World’s First 13-Inch VR-Ready Laptop

Say hello to my little friend.

Alienware just unveiled it’s new Alienware 13: the world’s first 13-inch, VR-ready gaming laptop. If you’re looking for a truly portable VR gaming solution, the Alienware 13 is the piece of hardware you’ve been waiting for. It weighs just under six pounds, and at its widest point it’s only about an inch thick. How tricked out can this piece of kit get? Very tricked out. How expensive is this laptop? Very expensive.

You don’t have to go all the way, but…

You don’t have to pay top dollar for a VR-ready laptop if you don’t want to. The base model rings up for $1,200 USD, and it’s actually got a lot going for it. Like every other configuration, the base model features an Nvidia GTX 1060. This is the nicer version of the card with 6GB of GDDR5 memory. It’s the same GPU I use in my desktop, and it’s a beast. Inside you’ll also find Intel’s new i5-6300HQ CPU, and 8GB of DDR4 RAM at 2133MHz. Nothing mind-blowing, but it’s a really great setup.

The premium configurations are irresistible.

Now if you have some cash to burn, the top-tier Alienware 13 is a beautiful monster. For a little over $3,000 you can opt for a configuration that includes the GTX 1060 6GB, an Intel Core i7-6700HQ CPU, 32GB of DDR4 RAM, dual 1TB SSD hard drives, and a gorgeous 1440p OLED display. All of that power comes in compact, 13-inch form factor. It’s pretty unbelievable, especially considering that when the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive were first released, VR-ready laptops seemed like a far-off prospect.

Thanks, Nvidia.

This wouldn’t be possible without Nvidia’s new 10-series GPUs based on its Pascal architecture. We’re glad Alienware has taken the initiative to put together such a compact miracle, but it wouldn’t be possible without the leap in power and efficiency that Pascal offers. You can thank Nvidia now, but you’ll really be grateful about a year from now when all of this tech starts going down in price. It’s a good time to be a PC gamer, folks. If you’d like to browse Alienware’s new line of gaming laptops, you can do so thru Dell’s website.
