Koei Tecmo is working on a second video game adaption of manga and anime Attack on Titan, the first of which launched in 2016. In an interview with DualShockers, Koei Tecmo President and Chief Operating Officer Hisashi Koinuma, and Omega Force Manager Hideo Suzuki, revealed new information regarding the game’s release plans, gameplay, and story elements.
According to the executives, we can definitely expect Attack on Titan 2 to make its way to PS4 and Xbox One consoles, with visual enhancements compatible with PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. The team is looking into releases on other platforms — Nintendo Switch, please! — but we should have an official console list this fall.
The first Attack on Titan game’s main highlight was controlling the characters’ unique omni-directional gear to maneuver around and fight titans. Though the game was received fairly well, the chief complaint was the simplicity of battling titans, so developers are improving the combat system to be more challenging and engaging. Similarly, fighting as a titan on the other side of the battle should be a better experience in the sequel.
As for the story, Attack on Titan 2 won’t be quite as linear as the first. The base camp will be expanded with increased activities and narratives for more interesting gameplay outside of combat. The story will follow the second season of the anime, and players can expect much more interactivity with other characters that will be working into the story.
That’s all the new information for now, but Koei Tecmo should reveal new details over the coming months, including trailers, consoles, and an exact release date. Attack on Titan 2 is scheduled to launch in early 2018.
