Bethesda has a job opening for a new freemium game

Bethesda has just posted a new job opening for their Montreal department. It may not be anything for gamers to get excited about however.

The job opening is for “Game Performance Manager” for a freemium game. The team “pushes the limits of freemium game development” and the job post doesn’t reveal much information about this new project. It does make several references to monetization however and mentions the “objective of generating income and quality of experience of the player”. It’s uncertain how promising this new game will be for players considering the wording and focus on financial gain. However, it is Bethesda who previously released Fallout Shelter which is a hit mobile game.

Here’s what the job post has to say

Bethesda Game Studios is a game-based game based on the AAA freemium game development. In this role, you will work with team player to envision, evolve, and operate monetization strategies, targeting the intersection of revenue generation goals and quality player experience. Ideally, you will have experience defining and operating online business models, and have a deep understanding of player interactions with those models, both at the individual and community levels.

One of the ‘qualifications’ for the new project is “Must be comfortable with uncertainty”. It suggests that Bethesda might not be too confident about this title. The developer seems to still be pushing ahead with it anyway. There’s no way of knowing when Bethesda will announce this new game.

The Fallout Shelter announcement was made at E3 and the game was immediately made available for download. It’s possible that Bethesda is planning to do something similar for this years E3 show. We’ll have to wait and see. The Bethesda E3 conference will be on June 11th.
