StarCraft, the best RTS of all time, is about to experience an HD revival.
For old-school Blizzard fans like myself, this was the most exciting news break all week! Apparently, according to Korean news outlet iNews24, Blizzard is working on a StarCraft HD remake. This is honestly what I was hoping StarCraft 2 would be: just a straight-up carbon copy of the original with updated graphics and maybe a campaign for people who just have to have a single-player mode. Early reviews indicated that my dreams were dashed. Alas, they are revived!
The outlet reported (via Kotaku) that the new StarCraft would boast a higher resolution and improved UI while keeping the original gameplay intact. At this point in time it’s not known whether the new StarCraft will feature 2D or 3D graphics, but we might hear more next month. Kotaku speculates that Blizzard will announce the game during the StarCraft II World Championship Series finals in Mexico City, which take place September 10-11.
If nothing else, if this is truly in the works, then we’ll get some kind of announcement or additional details during BlizzCon this November. Kotaku reports that iNews24 is a reputable source, and StarCraft is much more important in Korea than it is in the West, so I think we can probably get our hopes up. Now all we need is a Diablo II remaster and I can die a happy man.
