Cross-play is coming to Gears of War 4 ranked

The Coalition announced earlier this week that the cross-play for Gears of War 4 will be expanding. The developer released a blog post this week details their plans for the cross-play which will be coming to the game.

Gears of War 4 currently has some limited cross-play between Xbox One and Windows 10 users. Earlier this year, the developers released cross-play for the Social playlist so that Windows 10 and Xbox players could play together. Since then, the developer has noticed that Windows 10 users have found it difficult to find matches in Core and Competitive game types. To fix this, the developers have decided to release a series of updates to expand the cross-play between systems.

The first step is to provide a better Ranked experience for PC users by implementing cross-play. The plan is to introduce cross-play to Competitive Warm Up matches before expanding this further to the entirety of Ranked play.

The developer hasn’t released a date for when full cross-play will be introduced to the game. However, the developer has confirmed that it will be coming in the near future.

When the full cross-play ranked systems come into place later this year, the developer has confirmed another feature. They will be introducing a “Ranked Crossplay Toggle” for Xbox One. This option will let Xbox One players decide if they want to play with Windows 10 users. This option has only been confirmed for the Ranked competitive modes however. The Coalition has confirmed that cross-play will still be active in the Social, Competitive Warm Up and Special Event modes.

This is good news for both Windows 10 players and Xbox One players. The blog post from The Coalition states that they hope to deliver the cross-play system over the next few months. We will provide you with updates as the situation unfolds later this year.
