For the past few years, Devolver Digital has been providing an E3 show that’s full of laughs, exceptional levels of violence, and tons of meta-humor. 2019 was another great effort from the indie game publisher, as they moved away from their traditional press conference parody towards a jab at pre-recorded video conferences. Basically, Devolver Digital poked fun at the industry for 25 minutes while slickly using the Nintendo Direct formula of stark white backgrounds and quick gameplay trailers. There was plenty of news among the jokes and jabs, so let’s take a quick look at the hilarious yet informative Devolver Digital E3 2019 “Direct”.
Devolver Digital’s E3 2019 Direct
Fall Guys
In classic Devolver Digital E3 fashion, the E3 2019 video was an execution of all things traditional when it comes to press conferences and selling video games. Although the format was different, the jokes stayed relevant and topical, delivering hearty laughs at a good rate. The first game trailer that was shown was one for Fall Guy, an exceptionally colorful multiplayer title.
Try your hardest to race up the mountain and claim yourself king when the game releases on PC and PS4 in 2020.
Devolver Bootleg
If there’s one thing Devolver consistently does right, it’s taking a joke too far and turning it into a reality. That’s exactly what Devolver Bootleg is; an 8-in-1 PC game collection that is compiled of various rip-offs on popular Devolver Digital titles.
You can download this hilarious indie game compilation on Steam right this second, as the game is available now.
Carrion
In an explosion of blood and gore, we got an announcement trailer for Carrion. This “reverse horror experience” sees the player controlling a bloody blob, hunting down scientists and other prey.
The pixelated horror title can be played on PC and major consoles when it releases sometime in 2020.
Enter the Gungeon Arcade: House of the Gundead
In an exciting but odd turn, Devolver also announced a brand new arcade game coming next year. Based on the popular rogue-like Enter the Gungeon, this new light-gun arcade title looks to bring back nostalgia for the era of Area 51 and House of the Dead.
I can barely believe it, but you’ll be able to get your hands on this brand new title in real world arcades when it releases in early 2020. We’ll do our best to bring you a timely review on this wacky Devolver venture.
The Messenger Free DLC and My Friend Pedro Release Date
The Devolver Digital E3 2019 Direct ended with two quick announcements; a brand new (and free) update for the 2018 smash hit, The Messenger and an official release date for side-scrolling shooter My Friend Pedro.
The Messenger: Picnic Panic brings sunny beaches and a tropical atmosphere to Switch, PS4, and PC on July 11th, 2019. You can grab My Friend Pedro on PC and Nintendo Switch on June 20th, 2019.
That’s all for the Devolver Digital E3 2019 Direct! That officially wraps up the first day of press conferences at E3 2019, with plenty more to come. Don’t miss our coverage of Ubisoft, Square Enix, Nintendo, and more in the coming days!
