EA earnings report confirms that BioWare’s new IP is delayed

The release of EA’s earnings report has officially happened. The company has just released their earnings report for the 2017 year which ended on March 31st. The report reveals some interesting information about games from the publisher but it also reveals that BioWare’s new IP is delayed.

If you’d like to read the full earnings report you can find it here. However, we’ve summarized it below to pick out the most important details.

To start things off, EA claims they were the number one publisher for Xbox One and PS4 in the West. According to EA, they’re the best publisher of the fiscal year for Xbox One and PS4 in the West.

The company points out that Battlefield 1 had 19 million players between it’s release and March. This is also a “50% increase over Battlefield 4”.

In addition to this, FIFA 17 has also had a very strong year. There have been over 21 million players taking part in matches and 12 million of them took part in the story mode the game offers.

Rather surprisingly, The Sims 4 is also reported to have had a very good year. EA claims that the publisher has seen a 33% player increase each month. The report ends the section on The Sims 4 by claiming that “The Sims 4 community is thriving”.

While there’s lots of good news from the EA report, there is some bad news also. The new IP from BioWare has been delayed. The new game is now expected to launch between April 2018 and March 2019.

The report explains that the delay is so that the developers can work on the the “social designs” in the game. Apparently the game is built around a “live service” but the report doesn’t go into detail on this.

We will provide you with updates about this new game from BioWare when we learn more.
