Expect Nintendo Switch Supply but Not Discounts for Black Friday

With the biggest shopping day in the United States — and some other countries — rapidly approaching this week, many consumers are on the look out for deals on one of the hottest video game products of the year, the Nintendo Switch. You can search all the leaked and officially released Black Friday ads for Nintendo’s hybrid console, but you won’t find one marked down from its original $300 price point. That’s because Nintendo is not discounting the Switch for Black Friday but instead focusing on simply keeping the console on shelves for people to buy.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aimé spoke on the company’s decisions for the Switch’s first Black Friday on the market, albeit briefly. “We are not discounting the Switch,” Fils-Aimé stated simply. “We’re focusing on making sure we have robust supply at retail.”

A strong supply of Nintendo Switches will undoubtedly be welcome during the holiday season. The Switch, among other Nintendo products, has had a difficult time staying on the shelves, due to both high demand and a lack of supply. Fils-Aimé also said that Nintendo is trying to “learn its lessons” from the NES Classic stock catastrophe of last year by keeping retail outlets supplied with both the Switch and the company’s newest retro console, the SNES Classic.

Though you won’t come across any bargains for Nintendo Switches or SNES Classics this Black Friday, you can expect a better supply of them wherever you do your shopping. The Switch will see some more bundles with games like Super Mario Odyssey and Splatoon 2, which would make for top tier gifts this season, even without a crazy discount.

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
