Forza Motorsport 7 approx 100GB install size!

Yes, Forza Motorsport 7 is advertised as a 100gb install size. It’s under the Play Anywhere umbrella, wherein Microsoft makes it available for Xbox One and Windows 10. Microsoft listed the game for pre-order on their Windows 10 Store, and you can see the approximate size in between the Reggie heads.

If you are a sane person, you are probably asking “WTF WHY?!”. The reason most likely has to do with Forza Motorsports 7 being ‘built from the ground up in 4K’. And just like freedom, 4K ain’t free. While I was staring at the delicious 4K and 60FPS at Microsoft’s E3 Conference, I didn’t think about those big fat install sizes.

Microsoft is no slouch when it comes to massive game sizes. Gears of War 4 cracked 100GB wif you include all of its patches and DLC. Halo 5 is also massive, floating around 80GB-100GB with its patches and extras.

As resolutions improve, it’s no surprise game sizes will have to balloon to accommodate the increasingly detailed textures, but it appears Microsoft and Sony didn’t future proof their console hard drives with that in mind. 4TB PC hard drives are very affordable, and it would have been nice for the Pro and Scorpio models to come properly equipped.

We haven’t even talked about internet and data caps yet. While internet continues to get better and many gamers have unlimited usage at great speed, there are still many under the iron fist of hard caps and expensive fees. I moved from the city of Toronto to rural Quebec and had to pay quite a bit extra to get the unlimited plan I needed for game downloads. Heck, did you know Blockbuster still operates in Alaska because internet there is so FRIGID.

If you were planning on getting Forza on your new Xbox One X or 4K PC system, you still have time to upgrade that beautiful Solid State you just put in with a honking game holder.

Forza comes out October 3 for Xbox One and Windows 10.
