The Kickstarter-funded Friday the 13th: The Game has finally gotten a solid release date of May 26th, publisher Gun Media announced recently.
Gun Media and IllFonic’s Friday the 13th: The Game, based on the gory horror film franchise, has gone through a rocky development. It was initially planned to release last fall and was delayed to “early 2017” to make time to incorporate fan-requested features, such as a single-player mode. However, single-player missions won’t be available at launch but later this summer.
The horror game will release as multiplayer-only for digital download on PS4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. This digital version will cost $40, and a retail version coming later will be priced at $60.
As for gameplay, Friday the 13th: The Game is a third-person fear-driven hide-and-seek. You either play as ridiculously overpowered Jason or one of up to seven campers in none other than the Camp Crystal Lake. Jason hunts and kills while campers try to escape or get a telephone working well enough to call the police in.
And there’s no time limit. You either escape, or you die a very gory death.
The above trailer shows Jason killing campers in endlessly bloody and inventive ways, and it looks like the campers will come across plenty of items and tools to help them in their escape.
If you’re debating what platform to download this game onto, the frame rates might influence your decision. Gun Media told fans on Twitter that the PC version of Friday the 13th will reach 60fps–and beyond–while console versions will be limited to 30fps “right now.”
Pre-order information will be coming soon. We’ll keep you updated on the latest, scariest Friday the 13th: The Game news.
