Friday the 13th is Suspending Patches to Work on Dedicated Servers

The Friday the 13th: The Game team is pretty consistent with providing updates to fix bugs and add new content, but those patches will be temporarily halted while developers focus on adding dedicated servers. Before the long-awaited dedicated servers, however, the team will have to upgrade the game engine, which will take some time.

Gun Media shared this news on the game’s official forums. While regular patches are postponed, developers will be updating the Friday the 13th: The Game to the latest version of the Unreal Engine. Doing so will improve many bugs and performance issues that have plagued the game for some time. Plus, it will be essential for introducing the dedicated servers that the PS4 and Xbox One versions lack.

The changes players can look forward to include physics improvements and fixes for vehicles, ragdolls, hair, and more. The post also promised “fixes for long standing issues that will be automatically resolved by moving to the new engine version,” but no specifics were shared. There should also be better general performance on all platforms once the engine update is complete.

So how long will this process take? Gun Media estimated the new engine will be integrated by April at the earliest, so you might want to prepare for it to take longer. “Upgrading the engine means touching every piece of content in the game, updating new content that is being created, and needing to retest all core features and gameplay balance to make sure they are not affected,” stated Gun Media.

The team at Gun Media promised to share updates and teasers as they work towards bringing dedicated servers to all platforms. Friday the 13th: The Game is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
