‘The Last of Us’ Updated for HDR & PS4 Pro

Sometimes I forget Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us was originally released on the PS3. It’s stellar graphics were far ahead of other games of its generation, and it just keeps getting better. The game was ported for the PS4 at launch as The Last of Us: Remastered, and now it’s receiving another shiny update.

Patch 1.7, available now for everyone, adds support for HDR, so you can really get your money’s worth from that $1000 Vizio. Stereo audio quality has been improved as well. This update also makes the game primed and ready for the upcoming PlayStation 4 Pro. According to DigitalFoundry, The Last of Us: Remastered will run in 4K natively on the PS4, but it will be locked at 30 FPS. The game will be playable at 60 FPS on the PS4 Pro, but selecting this option limits the game’s display resolution to 1080p.

Some members of NeoGAF have already posted a few screenshots comparing the regular ol’ The Last of Us: Remastered to the updated 4K version. You can see in the first two pictures below that the updated game is much less hazy, and the clouds look much more realistic than the blurred sky in the top screenshot.

In these next screenshots, you can tell the update makes the game look more like real life. The colors are much less saturated, and the picture is clearer.

The patch is available for everyone now, but you’ll have to wait to play The Last of Us on the PS4 Pro just a little while longer. Sony’s newest console is set to release on November 10th and is priced at $400.

Interesting to see the first wave of PS4/Pro feature differences. As long as my regular old system plays every game around 30 fps and 1080p I'll be happy.
