Square Enix has announced Dragon Quest Builders 2 is coming for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The announcement was made during a live stream of Dragon Quest Summer Festival 2017 in Tokyo. They showed off new gameplay features like gliding and swimming underwater.
Check out video of gameplay below.
New to the sequel are slopes, the ability to stack 3x as many blocks, making waterfalls and bodies of water, a dash button, and four-person multiplayer.
Vita fans hoping to play the sequel in their pocket will be disappointed to notice their platform was not mentioned and their are no current plans to bring DQB2 to Sony’s mobile console.
If you didn’t play the first, it’s a sandbox action RPG similar to Minecraft, but based on the wildly popular (in Japan mostly) RPG franchise Dragon Quest. The storyline is quite interesting actually, taking place in the parallel ending of the original Dragon Quest, in which the world was destroyed. The character in Dragon Quest Builder must now rebuild the world.
“Generations ago, the realm of Alefgard was plunged into darkness by the terrible and treacherous Dragonlord, ruller(sic) of all monsters. Mankind was robbed of the power to build and forced to wander the ruins of their former home, scrounging and scavenging in the dust to survive.
Now it’s up to you, a Legendary Builder chosen by the Goddess herself, to return the power of creation to the people and rebuild Alefgard. Only when the wonder of imagination has been returned will mankind be able to overthrow the evil Dragonlord once and for all!”
The original was released in January 2016 for PS4, Vita, and PS3. The sequel will be the first appearance on the Nintendo Switch.
There is no release date at the moment, fans will just have to take solace in the fact that it’s in development.
