A sizable new system update for the Nintendo Switch is out now. Update 4.0.0 adds several cool new features, as well as minor changes to improve the overall user experience. Video capture and system data transfers are the two most notable features that come with the update, but there is much more included with version 4.0.0.
As soon as the update is installed on your Switch, you can hold down the Capture button to record the last 30 seconds of gameplay and save it to your album. Videos can be edited and posted to social media like Twitter and Facebook. Currently, games that support video capture include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Arms, and Splatoon 2.
The other major new feature of the 4.0.0 update is the ability to transfer user and save data to another Switch. This moves all data from one user’s profile to another console, making it unavailable on the original Switch. To transfer, head to System Settings > Users > Transfer Your User and Save Data.
Another fun new feature from the update is a pre-purchase option for certain games on the Nintendo Switch eShop. This option allows pre-load of the game to your system for quicker play when the game is released. Nintendo did not specify what games will feature the pre-purchase option.
If you’ve been disappointed in the icon selection for your Switch user profile, you’ll be happy to know you now have 12 new icons to choose from. Some are characters from the upcoming Super Mario Odyssey, while others are from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
There are a few minor parts of the update still, which you can view in Nintendo’s official patch notes on Update 4.0.0. We will keep you informed on future Nintendo Switch news and updates.
