Perception Release Delayed on Consoles, Still Arriving on PC Next Week

Indie developers The Deep End Games is looking to hit big with their debut game, Perception.  After the announcement of the game’s release on May 30th for PC, Xbox One, and PS4, I was looking forward to ending my May with a bit of horror.  The game focuses on Cassie, a blind woman who discovers an abandoned mansion in Massachusetts.  By using her cane as a form of echolocation, players will explore the mansion and solve the mysteries within, all while being chased by the intimidating enemy known as “The Presence”.

Perception Delayed Until June on Consoles

Unfortunately, we received a bit of bad news for those looking forward to Perception on consoles.  Although the PC version will arrive for its initial May 30th release date, both the Xbox One and Playstation 4 ports have been delayed until June.  Arriving with the news of the delay came a new trailer, inviting us into the world of Echo Bluff.

There’s no official word on when in June we’ll see Perception released, but the Managing Director for Feardemic (publisher of Perception) had this to say…

“Launching a game across multiple platforms and territories simultaneously is always a challenge and we ran into some unforeseen circumstances related to age ratings across territories. We decided to release on PC as planned and then follow with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One releases in the second week of June.”

Currently, the game is rated Mature in the US for Sexual Themes and Strong Language.  With no mention of violent content, I’m curious as to just how much sexual content is in the game.  With the ESRB (those in charge of supplying ratings in the US), any sort of nudity is usually denoted on the rating.  “Sexual Themes” is on the low end of severity in terms of US ratings, and signifies a lack of visual nudity, but the inclusion of sex as a narrative topic.

Regardless, Perception will be releasing on May 30th on PC, and (hopefully) just in time for E3 on consoles.  Check back around then to get our full review of it!
