Pokémon GO Adds 23 New Pokémon, Including Some Region-Exclusives

Continuing their rollout of Gen 3, Pokémon GO has added 23 new creatures to the mobile app game, Niantic Labs announced recently. All new Pokémon are originally from the Hoenn region, the location of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. While Niantic did not provide a list of specific creatures from this rollout, they did share the above promotional image featuring some of the new Pokémon.

Even though Niantic wan’t completely transparent with this update, players from around the world have combined their efforts to piece together the full list of new Pokémon, which seem to be mostly Rock- and Ground-types. Check out the full list of the brand new Gen 3 creatures that can now be found in Pokémon GO.

  • Whismur, Loudred, Exploud
  • Aron, Lairon, Aggron
  • Nosepass
  • Numel, Camerupt
  • Trapinch, Vibrava, Flygon
  • Cacnea, Caturne
  • Solrock/Lunatone
  • Torkoal
  • Baltoy, Claydol
  • Lileep, Cradily
  • Anorith, Almado

There are a couple things to note about this list. First, stage 3 Pokémon, such as Exploud, Aggron, and Flygon, have not yet been spotted in the wild but can be evolved from their wild-caught earlier stages. Second, a few of these Pokémon have special spawn conditions. According to Pokémon.com, Solrock and Lunatone can be found throughout the world “but never in the same region at the same time.” It isn’t clear how these Pokémon will be distributed, though players have speculated they follow the same division as Plusle and Minun.

The other Pokémon from this rollout with limited availability is Torkoal, who is exclusive to the Indian subcontinent and parts of Asia. Countries in which Torkoal has been found includes India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Nepal, and Thailand. Torkoal isn’t a particularly competitive creature, but it is fairly popular since Ash Ketchum had one on his team while traveling in the Hoenn region.

That’s all you need to know about the 23 new creatures added to Pokémon GO. Have you stumbled upon any of these Gen 3 Pokémon in the wild yet? Let us know in the comments below!

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
