Speed Runners Raise Money for Hurricane Harvey Victims at HRDQ

Hurricane Harvey recently tore through the state of Texas, leaving many American citizens displaced.  Over the course of the natural disaster, countless families have lost property, homes, and hope.  Thankfully, there’s been a great influx of donations from various sources across the world.  Two of the most popular speed run events of the year (Awesome Games Done Quick and Summer Games Done Quick) are also two of the biggest charity events in gaming, with most proceeds benefiting a selected charity.  With Hurricane Harvey causing destruction and displacement, the organizers behind these speed run events have come together to run an impromptu event to benefit victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Gaming for Good

Much like their other speed running events, Games Done Quick has put together a brief (in comparison to their flagship events) marathon to raise money for the Houston Food Bank.  At the time of writing, the event is already underway and close to reaching $50,000 dollars raised.  With a large majority of the marathon still left, here’s to hoping that many more donations will come.

If you’re interested in watching the event, you can check it out over at twitch.tv/gamesdonequick.  There’s a wide variety of games being ran, so finding a great game to watch isn’t hard at all.  After looking over the full schedule (you can check it out here), here’s my list of games to check out during the marathon.  These times will be in Eastern Standard, and are also subject to change as the marathon continues.  Check the schedule for a more up to date listing.

I'm a life long gamer and an overall media junkie. In addition to writing great articles like this, I host a gaming/comedy podcast called "Super Gamecast 64" available on iTunes and Stitcher. I also watch an unhealthy amount of movies, and try to spread as much love into the world as I can. Hope you enjoyed the content!
