Square Enix and Marvel are teaming up for multiple Avengers games

Reassemble, y’all.

Video game developer Square Enix and Marvel Entertainment have announced their partnership for a series of games, codenamed “The Avengers Project.”

A teaser trailer was revealed via Marvel’s Twitter page with the hashtag #Reassemble. Check out the video above.

The teaser is short and vague, but it contains obvious references to Avengers like Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America. In these games, they’re “reassembling,” which seems to be the slogan of the new project.

Though it’s now been deleted for some reason, the original video description said,

“The Avengers project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise. Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come. More details on the Avengers project and other games will be announced in 2018.”

For this project, Marvel is working with Crystal Dynamics, developer of the Tomb Raider series, and Eidos Montreal, known for the Deus Ex series of first person shooter RPGs. Both of these studios are owned by Japanese company Square Enix.

Phil Rogers, CEO of Square Enix Americas and Europe, said his company’s collaboration with Marvel will “craft epic, imaginative experiences allowing gamers to live out their superhero dreams like never before.”

Jay Ong, Senior VP of Games and Innovation for Marvel Entertainment, said the Avengers project is “a perfect example of how Marvel is making games a key part of the landscape for Marvel storytelling, alongside comics, television and film.”

No hint of a release date has come from anyone involved, but we can expect to get more information.. next year. In 2018. But who’s surprised? Square Enix isn’t exactly known for popping out games quickly.

Do you think this partnership will bring us quality Avengers games? Let us know in the comments!

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
